Greeting cards and postcards - The process of
I have a studio in a small corner of our house with a window into west. Very little light comes through this window, no doubt that the glorious light of the north of the great artists of worship. But for me, the light from outside is not important because all the time I spend in the studio it's time to trade places with the sun moon. You see, I paint at night, moonlight, when most of the establishment asleep. Alone, surrounded by darkness, except for an old green wire neck lamp, discover a world of mysterious images hidden within me. I would like to believe that I am not alone in my study-that the presence of God transforms the tiny space in a cathedral where they receive divine instruction. But I am there everyday struggles, frustrations and issues that continually surface, fears and doubts that rise like smoke from burning wood, quickly dispel the fantasy that my studio is a sacred shrine where angels sing. Because really, I hear more angelic voices grunts, groans of the most sacred hymns, and more whispers of the witches of doggerel of saints.
And yet, despite the stormy atmosphere of my study of moonlight, many of the creations are born there unexpected images whose source hiding inside. They broke into the darkness without giving evidence of the turmoil that has already made its way onto paper. The final images you see are simply as witnesses to the mysterious process through which to understand that I have been caught for hours and hours.
For me, the creative process is a consuming fire that relentlessly pursues at my heels. Sometimes I'm willing to be captured and workflows. But most of it requires courage, discipline and a daily commitment to walk naked on his fire. Thus that in turn to the God of mystery whose face I can not see, but has kindly given me the faces I recognize mentors - artists, writers and poets of yesterday and today, show me the path. Then in my darkest moments, when even the moon seems to turn the eyes off me, a spark of light shines through what I remember of Vincent Van Gogh wore Candles in the brim of his straw hat while painting outdoors at midnight.
