One particular Scottish artist who fits this mold and is constantly exposed to the arteries of the gallery with his works, is professional artist Derek Lanarkshire Collins. Derek creates stunning works of abstract art by pouring specialty resins, carefully selected, powders, pigments and liquids on the canvas. His creations really to life when the main ingredient is added, fire!
Derek art is an extension of the special effects in painting has been in place for many years. He says, "I love the way other paints and lacquers affect one another, if the paint is not compatible the other paint does not touch what moves away or breaks the weaker paint and forms another effect. When you then add paint thinners, another reaction takes place, also much more thin will sprout, but lit it and evaporate the solvents and seal the paint.
In addition to these paints and lacquers, Derek has used all type of extra materials in his art, sand and broken glass to leaves and moss. Recently he was approached by a woman who had come through his art on fire, and asked to incorporate the ashes of his mother in a painting. Being such a sensitive issue, it's something Derek took on with great pride and care. He says: "Very often people are left with the ashes of their loved ones and are not quite sure what to do with them. Using the ashes in a painting is a great way to commemorate a life, and create something intimate and personal that can be maintained at home and most importantly in the family for years and years to come. "
Even in his early years as a decorator, Forte, Derek was the use of color, but he has always had the passion to experiment and create. What is now making his art has been a natural progression, all derived from many years ago when he was experimenting with decorative paint effects in their stone floors. Now he has all the freedom of expression that you want to create, on canvas, these fine works of contemporary abstract art.
