Why artists are put rings around the heads of people in Gothic art and mosaics?
Recently I studied the mosaics Ravenna, the Church of Hagia Sophia. The people in the mosaics had rings or circles around their heads. I realized that many paintings or mosaics art Gothic had this. Is there a significance to this?
Many artists use this ring called an aura or halo of holiness means to be given to the saints of Christ and the Virgin Mary is also an interesting fact is that Jesus is always depicted with a cross or three points in his nimbus.
