Furniture has come a long way from the headwaters campstools carved folding of the pharaohs. Originally an architect Ponti in Italy, before settling as a design artist. His most famous creations are the 1957 'Superleggera' (Superlight) Chairman, which supposedly could be lifted by a child with a finger. He had a framework wood ash and cane seat. He also designed the "armchair Dezza" which had thin arms and exposed fasteners on the outside, a more innovative at the time.
Marc Newson (1963 -)
Newson was born in Sydney, Australia but has spent most part of his working life in London and Europe. He is well known not only for his furniture designs, but also for its product lines like jewelry and clothing. It incorporates a style known as 'biomorphism' in their innovative designs, which focuses on flowing lines without corners or sharp edges. His famous embryos chair 'is a typical example, and probably his most recognizable design.
In recent years, Newson's work has been highly sought after in auctions. It's Lockheed Lounge 'was sold for just under $ 1 million at Sotheby's in 2006, and in the same year of his Chop Top of the table were sold in just 20 minutes to the design fair in Miami.
